Q: On average, how long does it take to install a gas boiler?
A: It can take up to 2 to 3 days but depends on the amount of work required i.e., is the boiler to be installed in the same position or somewhere else? Is the new boiler a like-for-like replacement? Will pipework need to be upgraded to conform to regulations? Is a PowerFlush needed? Will a Magnetic System Filter be installed as part of the installation? Will extra radiators be required? So, there are a number of factors that will influence the installation time.
Q: What do I receive post-installation?
A: You will receive a building regulations compliance certificate from the gas safe registered installer and your boiler will be registered with Gas Safe. Also, your boiler will be registered with the boiler manufacturer to begin your warranty/guarantee period. The local authority will also be notified of the installation.
Q: what is the average lifespan of a gas boiler?
A: No one can give an exact time frame but boilers are known to last many years beyond the manufacturer's guarantee. Life expectancy is in the region of 5 to 15 years. That isn’t to say it has to be replaced every 5 - 15 years. However, during that time other more energy efficient boilers may enter the market and we are encouraged to upgrade by manufacturers/government etc to a more efficient low cost boiler, in the name of climate change.

A: When breakdowns are deemed to be beyond economical Repair and if boiler insurance is refused by an insurance company due to its condition.
Q: I’m a keen DIY-er can I install a boiler myself?
A: NO, you can’t, not without the legally required Gas Safe qualifications (up to date/current) and you are registered on the Gas Safe database. Due to the product you are dealing with (gas) only qualified professional gas qualified engineers are legally allowed to work on gas appliances. Mistakes can, and have been fatal caused by the ‘have a go’ DIY-er or the nonqualified person! Don’t risk it - always engage an experienced professional engineer/company who can be tracked and traced on the Gas Safe database. The work will also carry a guarantee as well.
Q: Is it safe to install a boiler in a living room?
A: It’s not recommended. Best to choose the attic, bedroom, kitchen, airing cupboard, bathroom or utility room. Even a space outside the property such as the garage/outhouse is ideal locations.
Q: Should I replace a noisy boiler?
A: It depends. Is the noise pump related, are the radiators banging? It could be kettling (a build-up of limescale/debris on the surface of the heat exchanger). Always have your boiler and system thoroughly checked by a professional gas engineer, who will advise of the work needed to return the boiler to ‘silent mode?
Q: Should I turn off my boiler when leaving the property for extended periods?
A: Yes, when leaving property unattended it is always recommended to turn off the gas boiler. If you have wireless smart technology you can turn on/off the heating remotely during cold spells when the property is unattended.
