The Vaillant F54 fault code means the boiler has detected an insufficient gas supply. Without enough gas, the boiler cannot operate safely, so it shuts down to protect the appliance.

This fault is commonly seen on newer Vaillant ecoTEC boilers, including ecoTEC Pro and ecoTEC Plus models, and may appear alongside F28 or F29, since all three faults can be linked to gas supply problems.

Because this is a gas supply fault, internal repairs should only be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

What Does the Vaillant F54 Fault Code Mean?

F54 indicates the boiler is not receiving enough gas to run correctly. This could be caused by a temporary interruption to the gas supply or a fault within the boiler's gas components.

If the gas flow drops below the required level, the boiler locks out until the problem has been resolved.

Low gas supply

A problem with the incoming gas supply, gas meter or local network can trigger the fault.

Faulty gas valve

  • Make sure the gas isolation valve and ECV are fully open.
  • Look for any local gas supply interruptions.
