How to Fix Ideal Boiler Status 0

Seen a '0' on your Ideal boiler's display and lost your heating or hot water? Status 0 is one of the most common things people ring us about, and most of the time it isn't a fault at all.

Status 0 means the boiler is sitting in standby. It's powered on but isn't being asked to heat anything right now. If you're not running a tap or calling for heat, that's normal. If you are, and nothing happens, something in the setup or the system needs a look.

What does Ideal boiler Status 0 mean?

When an Ideal Logic boiler shows Status 0, it's telling you it's in standby. It's on, but there's no current demand for heating or hot water.

That's it. Status 0 on its own is not an error code. The boiler is waiting for a signal from your thermostat, programmer or a hot tap before it fires up. So when people ask what 0 means on a boiler, the short answer is: nothing's wrong, it's just idle.

Status 00, Icos and other Ideal models

Some displays show this as 'Status 00' rather than 'Status 0'. It's the same thing — standby, no demand. You'll see it across the Ideal range, including Logic Combi models like the Logic Combi 30, Logic Heat models like the Logic Heat 15, and older Icos boilers. The fix is the same whatever the model.

Common causes of Status 0

If you're expecting heat or hot water and the boiler stays on Status 0, it's usually one of these:

• No demand from the thermostat or programmer — nothing is telling the boiler to fire.
• Heating or hot water isn't switched on, or no hot tap is running.
• Settings are too low — the target temperature is below the room temperature, or hot water is set to off or cold.

If you're simply not using any heat or hot water, Status 0 is normal and you can ignore it.

How to fix Ideal boiler Status 0

Work through these in order. Most Status 0 cases clear within the first couple of steps.

1. Create some demand

Turn on a hot tap, or turn your heating up so it calls for heat. Give it a moment. If the boiler fires and leaves standby, there was never a fault — it just had nothing to do. If nothing happens, move on.

2. Check the thermostat

The boiler only fires when the thermostat asks it to. Set the thermostat higher than the current room temperature — if the room is 18°C, push it to 21°C or more.

On a smart or wireless thermostat, check it's connected to the boiler and swap the batteries if they're low or flat. 3. Check the boiler pressure

Low pressure can stop the boiler responding. Look at the pressure gauge — it should sit between 1 and 2 bar. If it's below 1 bar, top it up using the filling loop (your Ideal manual shows where it is), then reset the boiler.

4. Check the heating and hot water settings

On the control panel, make sure the heating temperature is set where you want it. For hot water, check it isn't set to cold or off. If the settings look right and nothing changes, you may be dealing with a mechanical fault rather than a setting.

5. Look for other fault codes

6. Reset the boiler

If the basics haven't worked, press the reset button on the front of the boiler and wait a few minutes. A reset clears the odd minor glitch. If Status 0 keeps coming back, the problem is deeper and worth getting checked.
