A PAT inspection test covers all portable appliances in a property or on a construction site that connect to a mains electrical supply, such as refrigerators, electric cookers, kettles, toasters, TVs, drills, hair dryers etc., anything in fact that plugs in!

What Is the Purpose of PAT Testing?

The purpose is SAFETY! A PAT test protects the user (in the workplace or on the rented property) from an electrical shock that could prove fatal. If the appliance’s condition fulfils industry standards, our engineer will grant you a PAT certificate, which you will receive electronically.

If your appliance is malfunctioning, you will receive a comprehensive report outlining precisely what needs to be done to meet current safety standards. This could mean replacing or
repairing the appliance. The engineer will stick a PASS or FAIL label to the appliance. The label will show the date of the last inspection and the date of the next test, together with the engineer?s name and contact details.

What will it cost:

We charge a fixed price starting from £81 + Vat for portable appliance testing when booked online.
This allows up to 20 appliances per property, which covers most appliances. Add £5 + VAT for each additional appliance.

Q. What exactly does Portable Appliance Testing mean?

Portable Appliance Test known colloquially as PAT. It is a periodic routine assessment of portable electrical equipment to ensure they are safe to use. Its goal is to keep people safe from electrical hazards on site or on domestic property.

The current legislation does not define ‘portable appliances’; however, the accepted definition is ‘any device that has a plug attached to it and plugs into a power outlet.’ Every portable item of electrical equipment will be marked ‘passed’ or ‘failed’ upon completion of a PAT test and the results documented.

There are several categories of appliances that ought to be taken into account for PAT testing or, as a minimum, be visually inspected:
