When undertaking bathroom extensions or adding a bathroom to a utility room, it is important to consider the positioning of the main sewer pipe. If the distance between the new WC/bathroom and the main sewer pipe is considerable, this could lead to issues with waste removal. Gravity is typically relied upon to remove waste, but blockages can occur if the pipe does not have sufficient slope or fall. This can be a major headache for property owners. To avoid such problems, it is important to plan for the correct pipe fall/slope. With the right planning and installation, property extensions need not be marred by plumbing issues. Regarding accessories, basins, bathroom furniture, heating, kitchen, pumps, radiators, and showers, these should all be considered secondary to the functioning plumbing system.

Basement conversions will suffer similar problems if the waste pipework is not reconfigured. It is a big ask to install a new pipeline to convey waste to the main sewer, as it may involve excavation works or punching through walls, which can be messy and expensive.

However, there is a solution to overcome the above problems by installing a macerator. A macerator can help remove waste efficiently, over and above conventional gravity-reliant designs. With a macerator, you can push limits (within reason). Converting it into a flat means it can be self-contained with the installation of a macerator. No more sharing the WC with other tenants or family members.

The Waste Away and Saniflo range delivers state-of-the-art macerator technology, offering convenient and accessible alternatives to waste disposal.

Saniflo and WasteAway macerating units/toilets allow installing bathrooms where previously it was impossible. These efficient pumps can operate efficiently in discharging slurry-like waste through pipework at distances up to 150 feet horizontally or 15 feet vertically with no reduction in pressure. You can find distance and installation limitations in our macerator handbook.

Saniflo and similar brands, such as WasteAway macerator pumps, are sturdy in construction and give unparalleled durability, reliable performance and ease of use that lasts for years when installed correctly.

Serviceteam saniflo engineers are skilled in Saniflo Macerator repairs, replacements, installations and unblocking.

Macerator technology is vital in modern bathroom installations, particularly when the WC is positioned away from the soil pipe. By utilising powerful waste-pumping capabilities, macerators allow for greater flexibility in bathroom layout and offer the ability to extend waste lines over long distances.

This flexibility is especially important in large homes or commercial facilities where traditional plumbing layouts aren’t always feasible. Macerator technology is also useful for connecting other bathroom fixtures like showers, baths, sinks, and toilets to a central waste line and heating and kitchen pumps. Overall, the convenience and effectiveness of macerator technology make it a fantastic option for those who require a more versatile plumbing solution.

Convenience

Saniflo macerators technology allows convenient installation in almost any area of your home, including outdoor workshops, attics, utility rooms, below-stairs conversions, and basements, where vertical waste movement is necessary. Saniflo systems do away with any excavation works and are quickly installed. Unlike standard toilets, these innovative technologies allow you to set up a toilet almost anywhere without an underground connection.

Durability

Saniflo units are durable and designed to last, undergoing rigorous testing for up to 50,000 flushes. Proper maintenance ensures products can continue functioning for up to 15 years!

Energy Efficient

Saniflo systems are an eco-friendly and cost-effective solution with reduced water and energy consumption. The flushing performance is maintained even with less water. The impellors in the unit liquefy the waste making disposal easy.

Additional fixtures

With Saniflo, an array of sanitary fixtures can be attached, including showers, baths and sinks. according to plan.

Saniflo systems are a leading choice for environmentally conscious people who wish to reduce their water usage. These systems use up to 27% less water per flush than traditional WCs, making them an excellent eco-friendly option. One of their top dual-flushing models is the SaniCompact, which can use as low as 1 gallon of water per flush, making it a fine choice for optimising water usage. Not only does this contribute to protecting the environment, but it also helps to lower your water if it’s metered.

Blockages

The macerator toilets are aggressive equipment, but they have limitations. The grinding mechanism of this toilet can easily manage the two P’S (poo and paper). Inappropriate use can cause macerator blockage with waste such as dental floss, cotton buds, sanitary products, baby wipes, food scraps, etc. Severe blockages can cause the motor to overheat and potentially burn out.

Macerator vibration

Macerators often suffer from vibration due to an out-of-balance motor caused by foreign objects preventing the motor from functioning properly. To prevent breakdowns and extend its lifespan, it is important to maintain macerator cleanliness and conduct regular inspections.

Noisey pump

Macerator pumps are essential for maintaining a clean and efficient waste management system. At the heart of this mechanism is an array of powerful blades that grind solid waste into liquid form. If the pitch changes to an unfamiliar sound, it may indicate a foreign object has entered the unit. Just think about what has just been flushed, as you could be the cause of it!

If the unusual pitch/sound continues, then promptly seek assistance from serviceteam Ltd. The macerator pump starts on its own.

If you’ve noticed that your macerator pump in the bathroom is flushing on its own, it could be a sign of an issue with the micro switch. The switch may mistakenly detect the tank as full, repeatedly triggering the flushing cycle.

Macerator pump trips

When it comes to macerator pumps, tripping is never a good sign. It probably means that water has made its way into the electrics, or there’s a loose connection somewhere, causing the unit to shut down for protection. It may seem tempting to attempt fixing the issue yourself, but it is always advisable to leave electrical repairs to professionals to prevent further damage. If the motor is worn or damaged beyond repair, it may be time to invest in a new macerator.

Saniflo Macerator Repairs in London

A macerator unit is not much bigger than a conventional toilet. The machinery is contained in a small inconspicuous box at the rear of the WC. Like garbage disposal, the macerator quickly and efficiently turns human waste and toilet paper into a fine slurry, which is then discharged under pressure through a discharge line to the soil stack or septic tank. With this technology, a new bathroom can be installed wherever is most practical: in a basement, attic or garage; under the stairs etc.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the lifespan of macerating toilets?

The lifespan of macerating toilets is a common query. Typically, the macerator pump can last up to 15 years if only the two P’s are disposed of. Anything else entering the macerator can reduce its service life.

Q: Why is the macerator not switching off?

If your macerator is not switching off, the most likely cause could be a loose connection or a worn-out microswitch. To return it to optimal performance, replace both components simultaneously – for peace of mind.

Q: Can the Saniflo unit, drain pipes, other pumps and vents be hidden in a wall?

As a homeowner or business owner, keeping your bathroom clutter free can be challenging. Luckily, Saniflo has the perfect solution. Their 15-inch extension kit allows you to hide your macerator/pump easily, along with your drain pipes and vents, behind a wall or in a less noticeable location.

This means you can have clean and clutter-free spaces without compromising functionality. It’s important to note that access to the macerator/pump is necessary for servicing. The Saniflo range of accessories allows you to enjoy a fully functional and aesthetically pleasing bathroom.

Q: How much water is used by the saniflo toilet system?

The Saniflo line of products is a low-consumption option for those looking for low-consumption options. All models in the range, including the Sanipro and Saniplus, boast a flush rate of only 1.6 gallons per flush. The Sanicompact, designed for smaller spaces, uses even less water, flushing with less than one gallon consumed. These features make Saniflo products both convenient and eco-friendly.

Q: Why does it not pump anymore?

If you are experiencing issues with your macerator not pumping, it may be due to a blockage in the macerator, pump or waste outlet pipe. Alternatively, there may be an issue with the return valve or damage to the unit’s rubber membrane. At times, the microswitch can misfire, causing the issue.

Q: Waste is not flushing?

It could be a blockage in the unit/toilet or the connecting pipework. First, isolate the macerator and remove the unit’s lid to access the inside (protective clothing, rubber gloves and a nose peg are recommended).

Check that nothing is blocking your macerator. If there is, remove it with extra long tweezers/tongs, and clean the tank while you’re at it. If this does not work, the blockage could be in the pipework.
Regular cleaning can increase the lifespan of the macerator. Periodic descaling is recommended to prevent the build-up of limescale. A quick visual check will indicate if descaling is required.
